Longparish Under 13's: 100 for 2
Match Report
On a bright sunny morning, with the temperature already in the mid twenties, Longparish won the toss and invited Compton to have a bat. For reasons unbeknown to those watching, the game to be played on an artificial pitch bordering a large flat square with several good looking wickets. The Longparish bowling struggled to adjust their lines and lengths to the alien surface conceding a large number of extras. William Jackman picked up the first wicket courtesy of a superb catch by Nick Bearpark, that was missed by his Dad who was too busy chatting, Tom Burley took the second thanks to an athletic catch by Brad Aldridge, whose Dad doesn’t miss a ball. Dan Pomroy took a superb catch behind the timbers off the bowling of William de cani, whose father witnessed the whole Schemozzle. Compton closing their innings on 99, extras top scoring with 60. Junior Bearpark placated by his Dads insistence that he had witnessed his son’s “match changing” catch
As the temperature continued to climb the fairer skinned, and those prone to sunshine grumps moved to the shade, while the more body confident sun worshippers donned their bikinis and mankinis and strode the boundary, welcome to cricket Borat style………….High Five!
Charles Sherwood was the unfortunate first wicket to fall bowled by a ball that “did loads” Brad Aldridge biffing a quick 10 before suffering the same fate. William de Cani and Michael Taplin batted beautifully, both unbeaten at the close, Taplin on 25, de Cani retired on 30 to be replaced by the “finisher” Dan Pomroy who with a cut and a drive saw Longparish through to the Quarter final of the Barfoot Plate with five overs to spare.
