Match Report

The annual Sunday match against the Rioteers, the Longparish ground verdant and damp in patches after the wet weeks of the indifferent summer.

Longparish batted first, Adam Lister losing three partners with score on only 19.  Lister carrying on where he left off the preceding day batting patiently with William de Cani in a partnership of 56 before Lister was dismissed for the first time this weekend for 40 from 80 balls trapped lbw to the bowling of Hillier.  Hillier claimed another 2 wickets in the same over as the Longparish innings wobbled.  Captain Justin Jackman steadying the ship with a 56 run partnership with William de Cani, 13 year old de Cani reaching his maiden fifty for Longparish with a series of boundaries off the bowling of Hillier before being bowled by Towned for a top score of 59 from 83 balls.  Jackman selflessly retiring himself after a brutal 39 as Longparish closed their innings on 177 with Nick Dawney unbeaten on a stylish 9.

Tight bowling coupled with an impressive display in the field restricted the Rioteers’ reply to 61 from the first 20 overs, Adam Seidman swooping shortly afterwards to run out G Yates with the score on 71, Seidman following up his athleticism in the field with a steady few overs of slow left arm round. The second wicket also fell to a run out, this time it was Steve Benco who struck with feline grace to dismiss the second opener Grayson for 30. The Rioteers quickened their scoring rate with some hefty blows before under 13 Brad Aldridge threw down the stumps to claim the third run out of the innings. With the Rioteers closing in on the Longparish total Jamie Aldridge produced a rapid spell of bowling for very few runs to take the game into the final over, The Rioteers eventually passing the post with 3 balls remaining.
