Longparish Under 15's: 74 for 6
Match Report
A welcome return to fine weather, and the diminutive Longparish U15 side return to action against Compton; captain William de Cani losing the toss and being asked to field. The Compton innings struggled to gain momentum against the Longparish bowling attack, Ollie Lee and Sam Woodward taking two wickets each, William Jackman surpassing their efforts with 3 wickets for 10 runs. Alex Coetzee superbly stumped Compton top scorer W Jones off the bowling of Ollie Lee before the highlight of the game, the Compton batsman heaving at a slower ball breaking his bat in two, the bottom twelve inches flying in the air instigating a mad scramble to catch it by Charles Sherwood and Michael Taplin, who have obviously inherited their parents’ eye for a free piece of firewood; Compton all out in the nineteenth over for 73.
Longparish replied steadily Andy Roberts falling early, Ollie Lee batted on with William de Cani, keeping up with the required run rate against some skilful bowling, both eventually run out; Lee for a superb 28, de Cani for a scratchy 16. A tumble of wickets instigated panic in the team from the other side of the North/South divide (A303) that was only settled by Sam Woodward striking the penultimate ball of the match to the boundary, to seal another victory for Longparish U15s by 4 wickets.
