Longparish Sunday XI: 214 for 8
Match Report
Under a sky threatening rain Longparish batted first. Stuart Tognarelli and Jack Tosdevine piling on 89 for the first wicket against some aggressive bowling from Bubba Haywood who bowled his eight overs straight through for only 23 runs, Tognarelli the first wicket to fall in the 21st over after making a stylish 64. Jack Tosdevine followed soon after for 19, which brought together Matt Jackman and Steve Benco. In a superb partnership they accelerated the run rate to a run a ball putting on 86 for the third wicket, Benco the first to go for 37, Jackman falling 3 short of a well deserved fifty in the 37th over. William de Cani attempted to marshal the tail, who were unable to cope with the vicious turn of Whitchurch spinners Driver and Greenham; Driver finishing with 4 for 23, Longparish “old boy” Mitch Greenham turning it square to knock over the stumps of Chris de Cani and Justin Jackman. Longparish scoring 214 for 8 from 40 overs.
The Whitchurch reply stuttered against the Longparish opening attack, 13year old Brad Aldridge bowling a magnificent spell of swing bowling taking 1 wicket for 11 runs from 5 overs, Matt Jackman completing a great all round performance at the other end, with 1 for 26 from his five overs. First change Jack Tosdevine maintained the pressure along with Matt Allen, Tosdevine bowling his best spell of the season deserving more than the two wickets he took from his 6 overs for 18 runs. With the score on 46 for 4 in the eleventh over the damage had been done by the youthful Longparish seamers. Whitchurch’s 5 and 6 Haywood and Driver made an attempt to get close to the target with a partnership of 66 before Captain Jackman turned to the spinners to finish the job. Adam Seidman’s left arm taking 1 for16 from 5 overs, William de Cani 3 for 8 from 5 with his leggies, and Chris de Cani 2 for 2 from 3 with a mixture of doosras, zooters and mystery balls, as Whitchurch were dismissed for 118.
