Back to the New Forest for the annual Sunday friendly against Wood Green; The place alive with people enjoying a good snoop around the gardens of the village that were open for the day. Stopping off to stand with the horses and cows to take in the cricket, before their next inspection of someone else’s patch.
Longparish batted first, Jack Tosdevine unfortunate to go early with a ball that came down the slope. Stuart Tognarelli batted on, and looked in fine form until he was caught for 24. Matt Jackman followed after he was the victim of a superb run out, the fielder throwing down the stumps while prone in the covers. Adam Lister and William de Cani put on 82 for the fourth wicket against some superb bowling, Cousins bowling 5 consecutive maidens, with Longparish taking only 13 runs from his 8 overs, Lister bowled by Bartel after making yet another fifty. Matt Allen 11, Adam Seidman 20 and Steve Benco 6 pushed the score up with some big hitting in the final overs as Longparish closed their innings on 183 with William de Cani unbeaten on 43.
With a combined age of 29 the Longparish opening bowling attack bowled superbly, Matt Jackman from the pavilion end, Bradley Aldridge from the dead cow end. Both took two wickets as the Wood Green top four all got in and then got out. Adam Seidman bowled with aggression and picked up 2 wickets, Jack Tosdevine took one wicket but deserved more for his efforts. As the game moved towards an exciting climax, the dead cow behind the bowlers arm resurrected itself to take in the tense finish. Some accurate and skilfull “death” bowling by the precocious Longparish attack restricting the Wood Green batsmen who finished the match ten runs short from their forty overs.
