Amesbury: 170 All Out

Longparish 2nd XI: 202 All Out

Match Report

A tough tie for Barker Son & Isherwood sponsored Longparish II, away to promotion chasing Amesbury.  Amesbury winning the toss and with thick cloud cover, and rain imminent asked Longparish to bat. Openers Justin Jackman and William de Cani putting on 30 before de Cani was bowled in the 8th over for 10. A crocked and creaking Warren Bonathon pushed the score on to 37 before he too suffered the same fate, bringing Ross Stewart to the crease who bludgeoned 69 from 60 balls in a 98 run partnership with Jackman before being bowled by Dobson. Mathew Jackman put on 37 for the 4th wicket with his Dad before being dismissed for 14.  Jackman senior dismissed shortly afterwards for a superb 66.  Longparish’s precocious tail puffed out its chest and wagged as best they could, U13 Michael Taplin striking his first ball for Longparish IIs for four, U13 Alex Coetzee dropping anchor before being the last wicket to fall with the Longparish finishing on a creditable 202. Every batsman bar one being clean bowled.

After a heavy shower at tea Amesbury set about chasing the formidable target. Longparish II’s left arm speedster Adam Seidman taking two wickets with the score on 21.  A Milnes and D Pickford consolidated the Amesbury reply with some patient and skilful batting, before the intervention of the Longparish U13s.  Batsman Milnes objected to the state of the bowler, William de Cani’s trousers; de Cani who receives the same regular protestation from his mother on a daily basis proceeded to bowl Milnes in his second over for 54. Ross Stewart then picked up the wicket of Pickford for 36 in the next over courtesy of a two handed diving catch by Coetzee.

Stewart and Seidman went on to pick up a further two wickets, Stewart taking 3 for 35, Seidman 3 for 30 as Amesbury were dismissed 32 runs short of the target. Valuable points for Longparish II that give them a slim chance of avoiding relegation.
