Great Durnford: 118 All Out
Longparish 2nd XI: 119 for 7
Match Report
With high wind and the threat of rain Longparish II travelled to Great Durnford looking for their first win of the season. With several key players missing and a history of low scoring games between the two sides this had all the makings of a long afternoon for ten man Longparish II.
Batting first, Longparish were unlucky to lose opener Adam Lister early to a ball that flew off a length to be caught behind. John Young and Warren Bonathan batted on in bowler friendly conditions, Young the next wicket to fall for 11 runs with the score on 45. Warren Bonathan batted well to top score with 25, Captain Mike Wakefield falling for 22 from 16 balls as he gallantly tried to move the score along. Colts William de Cani 17 and Matt Jackman 11 adding valuable runs towards the close of the innings as Longparish closed their innings on 118 in the 38th over.
The sky continued to darken and the wind continued to blow as tea was postponed and Great Durnford began their reply. Longparish openers Mike Wakefield and Warren Bonathan bowling superbly, Bonathan taking the first wicket to fall in the second over. Longparish battled on, a series of half chances carried away on the wind, appeals for leg before turned down and a huge nick to the keeper not picked up by the umpire, signifying that it was not Longparish’s day. Change bowlers Adam Seidman and Matt Jackman also bowled well picking up two wickets each and captain Wakefield returned to take two wickets to peg Durnford back in their pursuit of the Longparish total that they eventually passed in the pouring rain with only 3 wickets remaining.
