An important game between two local rivals both placed near the foot of NW regional 2. Wherwell batted first and against a strong Longparish bowling attack batted superbly, reaching 71 before the fall of the first wicket. C Hitchen caught and bowled by Matt Allen for 37. Wherwell’s Beckenham and Langford put on a further 137 before Langford was dismissed by Matt Jackman for 78, Beckenham batting on to finish unbeaten on 81 as Wherwell closed their innings on 248 for 4. Mike Wakefield and Matt Jackman the pick of the Longparish attack.
Faced with a huge target, Longparish again started well Adam Lister and Warren Bonathan putting on 51 before Lister was caught behind for 27, Bonathan batting on to 37 before being dismissed in the 24th over with the Longparish total on 111. Mike Wakefield struck 35 from 26 balls in an attempt to get his side’s innings back on track before R Young joined the Wherwell attack to take 4 for 50 as Longparish were dismissed 86 runs short of the target.
