Longparish 2nd XI: 86 All Out

Andover IV: 180 for 8

Match Report

In steamy temperatures where you could sit and see the grass growing, Longparish II captain Mike Wakefield won the toss and elected to field, opening the bowling, on the wicket furthest from the pavilion himself; U16 Matt Jackman bowling from the other end.  Both bowled tidily and were rewarded with an early breakthrough courtesy of a run out.  Andover continued to bat steadily, U14 opener Rob Hadfield looking particularly assured with some superb leg side shots.  Matt Paice came on as first change bowler taking Longparish’s second wicket, Hadfield continuing to bat beautifully at the other end.  William de Cani threw down the stumps from mid wicket, before under 14 opener Rob Hadfield was caught by Matt Paice off the bowling of Mike Wakefield for 56.  Jack Tosdevine and James Young bowled well as  Andover scored at around four an over, finally finishing on 180 for 7 from 42 overs.  The two Matts, Jackman and Paice the pick of the Longparish bowlers, Paice the leading wicket taker with 3 for 46 from 11 overs.

An achievable target for Longparish who started well; Adam Lister had looked in fine form in the previous week’s inter club match when he had struck an eye catching fifty before breaking his bat. Carrying on where he left off with a different piece of timber his form remained, straight driving the opening bowler for four.  Andy Lorimer the first wicket to fall for 8.  Matt Paice fell cheaply, before Lister spooned one in the air for 33. a spectacular Longparish collapse ensued, Number five bat Pete Lawrence left marooned at the non strikers end, unbeaten  on 2 from 32 balls, as wickets tumbled at the other end, Longparish finally dismissed for 78, the old saying of  “running through you like a dose of liver salts” particularly apt as the two danger men in the Andover attack were both named Andrews.  Russel Andrews taking 4 for 21 from 9 overs, Fran Andrews taking 3 for 12 from 4 overs.
