Longparish U13   v  Hedge End U13

Longparish Won by 8 wickets

Gloomy weather, wet grass, thunder and lightning rolling around the valley, it must be time for cricket.  After a successful indoor season at Dummer, undefeated Longparish U13’s started their outdoor campaign swell with success after being crowned champions of the B league.  League newcomers Hedge End, eager to get their season underway arriving at the ground just after the birds were up.

With the ground looking immaculate, and the smart new wheeled covers rendering the pitch playable, Longparish captain William de Cani won the toss and asked Hedge End to bat.

Bradley Aldridge opened the bowling and free from the restraints imposed by a winter bowling indoors, came out kicking like a cow from the barn onto new spring grass.  In a superb first over he took two wickets with his first two balls, another with his fifth, along with a run out that left Hedge End reeling at 0 for 4 after one over.  William Jackman bowled the second over taking the fifth wicket, as Hedge End struggled to cope with the tricky batting conditions.  Owen Karine and Charles Sherwood followed up with a wicket apiece before rain interrupted proceedings in the sixth over, with Hedge End on 8 for 7.

After a forty minute break, play resumed; Longparish swiftly wrapping up the Hedge End innings for 23 in the 12th over.

In reply, Longparish lost the early wickets of Michael Taplin, and William Jackman before top scorer Alex Coetzee and wicket keeper Dan Pomroy saw their side to victory in the sixth over.
